I have always described myself as a city girl born and bred in Liverpool. I love Liverpool – I think it is one of the most vibrant, exciting and fashionable cities in the country. I was proud to be a scouser and I thought I would always live there. I am a bit of a home bird. Don’t get me wrong, I love going to see new places and going on adventures but I am always happy to come home and my home was always Liverpool.
When I met my husband I thought when we settled down we would live in Liverpool – why wouldn’t we? Well he had different plans. He needed open space, lots of green grass, calmness – all of which Liverpool didn’t really offer.
So I moved to be with him, obviously not far but out of my home town. I wasn’t sure I would like it. Not only were my family and friends in Liverpool but also my heart.
Fast forward 7 years and I can honestly say I love where we live. We are surrounded by farms, we are not far from the beach, we can go strawberry picking 10 minutes from our home – it is perfect especially for raising a family. I actually find myself saying things like ‘I need some fresh air’ or ‘should we go for a walk.’ My friends find it highly amusing! I am actually becoming a county girl (much to my husband’s delight).
And the relevance of the picture? A couple of months ago, my husband bought me 2 items of footwear. One set signifies the city girl which will always be a part of me and the other is the country girl which I have definitely now embraced.
Whilst a piece of my heart will always remain in Liverpool I have now found a new place to call home.
